September 2009

Kurt Lewin's "Unfreeze, Change, Refreeze" change model was once the dominant approach to organisational change. Today, change is constant. It comes in waves, from ripples to dumpers. Skill, confidence, timing and luck are needed to ride the waves. I'm noticing the speed at which CEOs, executives, and boards are realising that Change-Ability is the new source of competitive advantage and are committing to building these capabilities in their organisations.

Best wishes

Light Bulb Moment - Data Builds Desire
Blue light bulb
"We found it was difficult to create awareness of the need to change and a sense of urgency. We realised this was because we didn't have the data to prove that change was needed.  All we had were anecdotes and incomplete information that created debates and diversions.

"So we dedicated 18 months to collecting data from across the organisation and had it validated by credible external sources to ensure it was accepted as accurate. When we shared the final report, people saw reality as it was - the myths and a few sacred cows vanished. We gained genuine commitment to make change happen. We now use the baseline data to measure progress and this is a key motivator for our people".
